Like recipes, heirlooms and facial features, I inherited many things from the women in my family. One of those hereditary traits is hair loss, a common challenge for women with textured hair. Out of necessity comes innovation, so I decided it was time to address the lack of products catering to this need. I created the NU Standard® to promote overall wellness and common hair issues like dryness and breakage through our revolutionary system. 

I was tired of women having to sacrifice a healthy mane due to lack of products available, little time or funds for self-care, or external factors that affect hair and overall wellness. I wanted to give solutions to women of various backgrounds and cultures for problems that connected us all. 

The NU Standard® is about becoming your best you by pouring into yourself, maintaining those practices and caring for yourself consistently. Women carry so much, and I want to make life easier for them. For career women, stay-at-home moms, licensed professionals and everyone in between, the NU Standard® is for you.

I wanted to bring products various types of women felt safe using, especially with textured hair women usually being an afterthought with product development and research. Though technology has made information more accessible, it’s also overwhelming and misinformation spreads faster than truth. I want our products to feel like relief. 

I didn’t want us to be last in line or left out anymore.  I knew it was time to follow my passion and make a change for women like me. 

Another trait I inherited from my family was the entrepreneur spirit in the hair care industry. My grandfather, Comer Cottrell, Jr., started Pro-Line International, a global haircare company. My parents also led global haircare companies. I’m grateful to be a descendent of industry trailblazers.  My love for celebrating textured hair is literally a part of who I am, and you can feel the care in our products.

Partnering with licensed professionals helps us to stay educated while also helping to spread awareness about challenges so many women endure. The pros are a major key to why our wellness system goes beyond hair because scalp health can also pinpoint health issues overlooked by the untrained eye. I want to bring change to the haircare world from the inside out and I am willing to fight and sacrifice for that change.
